Amber weather alert issued

This weekend, the UK Health Security Agency issued a heat-health amber alert for the South East.
The alert is in place from 22 to 27 May.
An amber alert means that forecast temperatures are likely to have a significant impact on health and social care services.
Keep others safe during extreme heat
- Check on people who are at higher risk, including older people, young children, and those with long-term health conditions
- Never leave babies, children, vulnerable people, or pets in parked cars
- Keep babies under six months old out of direct sunlight
- Ensure children in prams or pushchairs are kept in the shade and checked regularly to prevent overheating
Keep yourself safe
- Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excessive alcohol
- Avoid intense physical activity, especially during the hottest part of the day (11am to 3pm)
- Close windows and curtains in sun-facing rooms
- Stay out of direct sunlight, particularly between 11am and 3pm
- Walk in the shade and wear a hat, sunglasses, and light clothing
- Apply sunscreen regularly (at least SPF 30 with 4 or 5-star UVA protection)
