Helping schools take small steps to care for our planet

Category: News Published: Tuesday 5 May 2026

A total of £10,000 is available and will be shared between schools across the borough. Each school can apply for up to £2,500 to support practical projects that reduce carbon emissions and improve school environments for children.

The funding can be used for simple, positive changes, such as:

  • Planting trees or improving school green spaces
  • Creating allotments or greenhouses where children can grow food
  • Installing solar panels to generate clean energy
  • Adding electric vehicle charging points
  • Switching to energy‑saving LED lighting
  • Improving outdoor areas or school buildings to make them greener and more welcoming

These projects help children learn about caring for the environment while creating healthier, more sustainable school spaces.

If you’re a parent or carer, you may want to let your child’s school know about this opportunity. Schools can find guidance and an application form on the TWBC Climate Action website or by emailing sustainability@tunbridgewells.gov.uk.

The deadline to apply is Friday 22 May.

If schools have any questions, the Sustainability Team are happy to help.
