Local Nature Recovery Strategy

The Kent and Medway Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) was formally adopted by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council in July 2026.

The strategy is an important step in helping us protect and improve nature across our borough and the wider Kent and Medway area. It identifies the places that are already important for wildlife and biodiversity, helping to ensure they are protected and better connected. It also highlights areas where there are opportunities to create new habitats and support nature's recovery in the future.

The strategy will help guide investment and action to the places where it can make the biggest difference, while also supporting planning decisions by recognising and safeguarding our most valuable natural environments.

The Council has played an active role in developing the strategy and will use it to help inform decisions that support biodiversity and environmental improvements locally. The LNRS is a material consideration in planning and is an important factor in the calculations for Biodiversity Net Gain as part of development.
